Say Goodbye to Wi-Fi Trouble with Wi-Spy
Posted on Wednesday 13 January 2010 - 16:32:13 by jim
Ever set up a wireless network and found out it didn't reach everyplace in your home or workplace and wonder why? Well there is a great little tool that can help you figure that out and more. It's called Wi-Spy 2.4i by http://www.metageek.net. A nice little tool that will monitor the full wireless network range and show you what channels have the least use and interference on them along with network names of Wi-Fi Network being used within it's range. It does actually show the other sources of interference like florescent lights, microwaves and any other types of radio interference in the wi-fi range.

This type of information is critical when you are setting up a local Wi-Fi network especially if you are having any trouble getting clients to connect. If you and three other folks are using tha same channel you will wind up getting  very short range out of your setup not to mention it may slow down your Wi-Fi network a lot.chanalyzerlitescreenshot.png

Left is a snapshot of the applicaation Chanalyzer Lite that runs with the Wi-Spy 2.4i USB Analyzer also supplied by metageek.net.

This utility of course will not add power to your wi-fi network but it will allow you to pick a channel that's not over used buy close networks and that is a big plus when you are trying to cover 300+ feet in a home or office with a standard router not a high powered commercial one.

You can check out all their tools at http://www.metageek.net and they have a few very good programs that will help you even if you are not using one of the Wi-Spy analyzers like inSSIDer that will let you see what networks and channels are being used along with a few other very handy tools.

16 July 2009 Awesome is all I can say. What a difference it makes. Should you decide to get one of these roofs you'll be impressed by not only the product but the folks who come and do the install. They are really very knowledgeable and professional. They did a super job all through the process from initial contact to completion and they were so easy to deal with. Thanks especially to Mike & Harris along with Lee and his crew who did the install. I really am extremely happy with this product and not only that but it's a great feeling of security having one of these highly rated roofing systems up on our home.
